Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón is under fire after a teenager convicted of hit-and-run was sentenced to possibly just five months in a probation ‘camp’ in the police program. diversion instead of jail.
The video of last year’s crime, which thankfully left mother and child unharmed, is gruesome:
Many of us have seen the horrific video of Rachel’s case on the news. She was walking around Venice with her 8-month-old son when the unthinkable happened.
Under George Gascón someone almost kills them and he only gets 5 months in camp. It’s not “reform,” it’s not justice, and it’s not fair. pic.twitter.com/MRjp0LwZ8L

WTF is wrong with him?

According to Fox News, the teen, who was 16 at the time of the crime, lied to investigators and was drunk:
According to police sources, the driver, who was 16 at the time of the crime, first told investigators that the victim came out of nowhere and hit her by accident. He was initially charged with criminal drunk driving and, given the circumstances of the incident, could have faced several more serious charges had Gascon prosecutors had the leeway to press for them.
Even worse for Gascón? Fox News’ Bill Melugin reports that he had a criminal history:
THREAD (1/4) A 16-year-old driver in a stolen car that ran over a mother and child in Venice was sentenced on Friday to 5-7 months in a juvenile camp. THE AD @George Gascon office told me it was a “proper resolution”, but I learned that he had a criminal record. @FoxNews pic.twitter.com/HupMw9KRFu

“According to multiple law enforcement sources, juvie was on probation and raping him at the time of this hit and run, and he had previously been convicted of felony poisoning after he spiked a teenage girl’s drink at high school in Palmdale in 2019. She was hospitalized. »

Voters will decide on Tuesday whether Gascón will be recalled or not:
(3/4) Despite the minor’s criminal history, LA DA office sources tell me that, in accordance with its policies, the Gascon administrator has not charged the minor with assault with a deadly weapon or attempted of murder for hit-and-run, which led to a sentence of light juvenile camp. @FoxNews

Gascón’s office also erroneously stated that the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Office agreed with the light sentence:
(4/4) Gascon’s office told me @LASDHQ agree with the lower charges in the case. After @LACoSheriff pushed back and said LASD had no involvement in the case or ‘light sentence’, Gascon’s office admitted LASD was not involved and told me they would ‘correct’ their statement

It should be noted that Sheriff Villanueva, who is also a candidate in the elections on Tuesday, approved Gascón’s recall:
Frank Stoltze on the relationship between Villanueva and LA DA George Gascon: “He approved the recall of the serving district attorney [as someone who works with him on a day-to-day basis]. He says that Gascon increases crime, of which there is no evidence. »

Cool. Maybe it’s time to investigate the prosecutor for election interference?
