Sonic The Hedgehog 2 is the highest-grossing video game movie in the United States

sonic the hedgehog 2 became the highest-grossing video game film in United States history.

Nearly a month after its theatrical premiere, Paramount Pictures’ sonic the hedgehog 2 hit another milestone at the box office. The sequel based on Sega’s iconic franchise has become the highest-grossing video game film of all time at the US box office.

Since May 1, 2022, sonic the hedgehog 2 grossed $152 million at the US box office, already surpassing the original 2020 film which grossed $149 million over its entire run. This is the latest record the film has broken at the box office, including becoming the biggest opening weekend for a video game movie and a Jim Carrey movie in history.

The further success of Sonic 2 is certainly exciting for Paramount Pictures, which has been looking for more franchises to add to its stable of films, given that the studio has struggled relative to its competition in recent years. 2022 has been quite a successful year for the studio so far, thanks to the success of Scream (2022), Fooled forever and The lost city. The studio hopes to further capitalize on their momentum with their long delay Top Gun: Maverick.

Here is the official synopsis of the film:
