‘Defund the FBI’ made the rounds on Twitter as news that the FBI raided the former president’s Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Florida unannounced on Monday, made its rounds on social media.
Donald Trump’s home raided by the FBI
The search comes as political figures have accused Donald Trump of taking classified documents from the White House, reports the Associated Press.
When news of the search broke, many Republicans took to Twitter and said the GOP should disband the organization.
Republicans want to ‘defund the FBI’
Rep. Lauren Boebert of Colorado and Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia were among many who expressed similar sentiments.

In a now-deleted Tweet, Boebert said:
GOP Majority Must Defund All Forms Of Tyranny Across Biden Government @FBI
NEW: Here are photos Maggie Haberman of the NY Times obtained from a White House source showing documents with Trump’s handwriting on them – in two different restrooms. Trump allegedly emptied both sets of documents multiple times. This contradicts his repeated denials. pic.twitter.com/fn1SjOFxDW

FUND THE FBI!
— Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene🇺🇸 (@RepMTG) August 9, 2022
Conservative journalist Todd Starnes said the ‘FBI’ had been ‘armed’ and should be ‘dismantled’.
The FBI has been armed. Reimburse and dismantle.

A few people with a different opinion found it hypocritical, given that many of those who tweeted about defunding the police were champions of “back the blue” during the George Floyd protests.
People talk about Republicans
One person tweeted:
Not a conservative tweet “defund the FBI,” the nation’s largest law enforcement agency after Trump’s raid. pic.twitter.com/yTywJkxFE1

Another person said:
These people never really cared to defend the police with this “FBI funding” after the Mar-a-Lago raid and to minimize the Capitol police. They only culturally accepted the police as a mechanism to keep blacks and browns in their place and terrorize them and nothing more

Donald Trump issues statement on FBI raid
Donald Trump made a statement and said in part:
Nothing like this has ever happened to a President of the United States before. He also called the raid a “dark period.”
Roommates, what do you think?
