Queen Latifah backs Lil Nas X after 2022 BET Awards snub

Earlier this week, the BET Awards unveiled the list of nominations for her upcoming show later this month. Doja Cat led the way with six nominations in categories that include Best Female R&B/Pop Artist, Best Female Hip-Hop Artist and Album of the Year. Elsewhere, Ari Lennox and Drake tied for second nominations as they can both be found in four categories. That being said, there was one glaring absence from the list of nominees, namely Lil Nas X, and fans weren’t happy about it. Lil Nas himself expressed his frustration over the snub in a pair of now-deleted tweets.

“Thank you betting rewards,” he wrote in one of the tweets. “Once again zero outstanding nominations. black excellence! He later added, “I just feel like black gay people have to fight to be seen in this world and even when we get to the top the mfs try to pretend we’re invisible. Many agreed that Lil Nas should have been nominated, including Queen Latifah, who shared her thoughts after an altercation with TMZ.

“Lil Nas X is amazing,” she said. “He should have been named. Despite this, Latifah didn’t seem to think her sexuality was behind the snub. “I don’t know if that’s the case. I don’t know what’s behind it all, but inclusion is always key. This is what we should strive for. There is enough room in this world for everyone.
