Several people were evacuated from a ferry traveling between Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island after the ship caught fire.
Don Cormier of Northumberland Ferries said the fire has been extinguished and a controlled evacuation is underway.
Please note that all remaining departures from Northumberland Ferries are canceled for Friday July 22 due to an emergency with MV Holiday Island. We are currently evacuating passengers and crew safely and there are no known injuries. We apologize for the inconvenience.
The vessel operates between Wood Islands, PEI. and Caribou, N.S.
Lucy Martin of Northumberland Ferries said the rest of the day’s sailings had been cancelled.
#RCMPPEI assists in an offshore incident near the Wood Island ferry terminal. The terminal is currently closed. Members of the public are asked to avoid the area to allow first responders to do their job.
She added that several fire departments are on the scene.
