New footage of Hollywood star Johnny Depp shows him in his first film since concluding his multi-million dollar libel case against his ex-wife Amber Heard.
The photos show Depp in regal attire, complete with a white feathered hat, curly white hair and a black blindfold, for the upcoming Jeanne Du Barry film, produced by French company Why Not Productions.
The actor, 59, won the now infamous legal battle against Heard in the United States in June.
Depp sued his ex-wife on a 2018 article she wrote for the Washington Post about her experiences as a survivor of domestic violence, which her attorneys say falsely accused her of being an abuser.
Representatives for the actor said he lost work opportunities and high-profile roles, such as his withdrawal from the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, after the accusations.
The jurors ruled in his favor after a six-week trial.
Jeanne Du Barry is directed by French filmmaker Maiwenn and filming reportedly began in late July after the trial concluded.
This is Depp’s first major acting role since the 2020 independent film Minamata in which he played war photographer W. Eugene Smith.
He was forced by Warner Bros to leave the Harry Potter spin-off series Fantastic Beasts in 2020 after losing his libel case against The Sun newspaperwho had described him as a “wife beater”.
Jeanne Du Barry follows Jeanne, a young worker who uses her intelligence and looks to climb the social ladder, eventually landing on King Louis XV’s radar.
Benjamin Lavernhe, Pierre Richard, Melvil Poupaud, Noémie Lvovsky, Pascal Greggory and India Hair would also be in the cast.
