He “came running out of the brush brandishing the machete and demanding his clothes”
A naked suspect in an attempted robbery of a surveyor in DeLand, Florida was arrested at a gas station on Monday.
Deputies located the man, identified by the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office as Brandon Wright, after the victim reported a chilling encounter with a naked man wielding a machete-shaped knife.
According to the sheriff, “the victim said the suspect was picking saw palmetto berries in the woods, but eventually ran out of the brush wielding the machete and demanding his clothes, wallet and phone.”

As the victim tried to meet the demands, he claims the naked man “threw the machete” at him with “a handful of saw palmetto berries”. Fortunately, the handle of the machete made contact and not the blade. The victim was not injured.
After the palm berry and knife throw failed, the suspect then ran into the brush and got into a white Dodge Challenger, according to the police report.
He was soon spotted at a nearby gas station, where witnesses reported a naked man.
A police helicopter found the suspect, now identified as Wright, as he flew overhead. The aerial video provided by authorities also featured audio, where the pilot could be heard noting, “He’s doing push-ups at the grocery store entrance here.”
Indeed, the video shows exactly that.
When officers arrived, Wright immediately lay down naked on the ground and was taken into custody without further incident.
He was charged with attempted robbery with a deadly weapon, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Wright was transferred to the Volusia County Branch Jail.
