Matt Smith Morbius Reaction – Why Matt Smith has to accept Morbin’ Time memes

A few weeks ago at Comic-Con, I witnessed the greatest moment of my stupid life. Really. To Dragon House(which, by the way, was so miserable that another reporter turned to me and said, “Is that… bad?”), bravest little toaster of a fan, during the Q&A session, said these words to Matt Smith:

“Matt, guess what? It’s Morbin’s time!

“Issswhaaaaaa? Smith replied, his initial I-will-soak-your-nerd-ass-in-the-toilet look giving way to a sort of fake disbelief.

The poor fan proceeded to remind the Doctor Who alum he played in a small movie titled Morbiuswhich initially aimed to introduce another anti-hero to Sony’s Spider-Man universe, one that doesn’t contain Spider-Man. Instead, the film, which stars Jared Leto as the titular Morb and Smith as the villainous Milo, flopped. Hard. Not only few people have seen Morbius, but the film was memorized in unholy oblivion. More specifically, the repeated utterance of “It’s Morbin’s hour”, a phrase that is never said in the film. Hence the uncomfortable interaction between the Comic-Con troll and Smith.

If you thought Smith was simply taken by surprise by the panel, and maybe even had a sense of humor about the whole thing, well, he’s not. The actor just spoke to rolling stone about the unpleasant reaction to the film. “Yeah, he got thrown under the bus,” Smith said. “But you just have to roll with it. What else are you gonna do? It’s a film, in the end, we don’t save lives. For some reason it didn’t quite work out and… It is what it is.

On this beautiful Friday, I’d like to make a humble suggestion to Smith: just embrace the memes and accept that it is — and perhaps always will be — Morbin’s time. Man, it’s perfectly normal that you haven’t googled which Marvel sandbox is the good one and which is its stinky cousin! Common mistake. Audiences have found a strange love for Morbius through the Morbin Time meme, which is the kind of adoration that eventually gives way to a cult classic. Too loud, perhaps, but since Smith performs a dance in Morbius which legitimately looks like a product of an automated meme generator, he better have fun with the whole thing.

Maybe he just needs to see a good fan edit first. May I suggest the Bully Maguire dance with Milo?
