The Money Saving Expert founder was answering a question on ITV’s This Morning when he tipped. Virgin Media customer Pauline called the show as she was looking to switch to Vodafone.

She was concerned to learn that Virgin would close her email account once she moved.

Mr Lewis said: “On Virgin you get 90 days after giving notice.

“Some providers let you keep it, some don’t. This is the classic reason for not setting up your own email address with your provider.

“You are going to have this problem forever.

The service is like a food bank, offering users free calls and texts.

Anyone affected by the cost of a life crisis can apply through the program for an O2 SIM card loaded with 20 GB of data per month and free calls and texts.

The amount has increased from the previous 15GB following the Virgin O2 boost.

It lasts for one year and is available for low-income households who do not have sufficient Internet access at home.

Help is also there to support those who cannot afford to pay their existing monthly contract or who do not have internet access when away from home.

This Morning airs weekdays on ITV from 10am.
