RCMP in Gimli, Man. is investigating the death of a 53-year-old Winnipeg woman while skydiving on Saturday.
Investigators said they received calls around 7:25 p.m. to report a “parachuting incident” in the Gimli Industrial Park.
When police arrived at the scene, a woman was found unconscious and she was pronounced dead at the scene.
RCMP said the woman was a very experienced skydiver and was wearing the proper safety gear.
“When she jumped from the plane, her parachute appeared to open at the correct altitude, but she entered a spin and collided with the ground,” RCMP said in a statement.
Investigators said there was nothing wrong with the plane and three other people were on the plane when the woman jumped.
RCMP continue to investigate the incident.
Skydiving Manitoba has not commented on the incident.
