Manitoba RCMP: Winnipeg woman died while skydiving

RCMP in Gimli, Man. is investigating the death of a 53-year-old Winnipeg woman while skydiving on Saturday.

Investigators said they received calls around 7:25 p.m. to report a “parachuting incident” in the Gimli Industrial Park.

When police arrived at the scene, a woman was found unconscious and she was pronounced dead at the scene.

RCMP said the woman was a very experienced skydiver and was wearing the proper safety gear.

“When she jumped from the plane, her parachute appeared to open at the correct altitude, but she entered a spin and collided with the ground,” RCMP said in a statement.

Investigators said there was nothing wrong with the plane and three other people were on the plane when the woman jumped.

RCMP continue to investigate the incident.
