Letters: Only Political Junkies Watch US Capitol Riot Hearings

Almost everyone is a bit of a narcissist.

Psychologists Roy and Liersch found that 73% of drivers thought they were better than average. The men were so confident in their driving skills than 80 percent considered themselves to be a lot better than average.

Women thought they could multitask better than average. Send text messages during driving does not distract them. The “in-text-ication” charges prove Otherwise.

Likewise, only political junkies pay close attention to the United States of January 6 Congressional hearings. The rest of the electoral population is much more concerned about the cost of gas, food and rent.

Bill Clinton’s de facto campaign slogan: “It’s the economy, idiot” defeated President HW Bush. Because few people follow politics from a distance, this sentence will defeat the Democrats in America. The only question? By whom will they be defeated?

These televised hearings should be directed to Attorney General Merrick Garland. Making the hearings a prime-time “grand jury” event means these tactics will eventually be directed against a Democratic president.

The Nixon’s impeachment was for lying about a criminal burglary: Watergate. Twenty-five years later, Clinton was impeached for lying about a sex act with an intern. The elephant never forgets. The donkey never learns.

For far too many voters, democracy is an abstract and intangible concept. Half the population hasn’t heard of, let alone care about, January 6 events. They simply don’t watch, read or listen.
