I view Highway 413 as an environmental disaster that will drive Ontario further away from vital climate goals, blanket Ontario’s greenbelt, destroy farmland and damage wildlife habitat.
Premier Doug Ford refuses to discuss the cost of Highway 413, but experts say it will cost the public purse at least $10 billion.
The Ford government, it seems, ignored the advice of government consultants and chose this path of destruction.
If built, this highway will add more than 17 million tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions over the next 30 years and harm more than 29 federally listed species at risk.
A panel of experts also determined that the freeway would only save drivers about 30 to 60 seconds per trip.
We don’t need more highways, we need to prioritize livable cities and invest in clean, green, public transportation for the future and the good of our families.
