Here are today’s letters from the Ottawa Sun to the editor.

REBUILDING UKRAINE?

The cost of rebuilding Ukraine? The subject is currently being debated within the European Union. Does Russia intend to leave all the areas it has “taken” in Ukraine? I do not think so. Russia will never leave Ukraine, ever, unless forced by military pushback by what is ridiculously called “the free world”. Or if Russian citizens revolt against the current regime and force the withdrawal of military forces from Ukraine. I highly doubt that event will happen. Rather, I predict that Russia will gradually devour Ukraine and that the example it has set will eventually be imitated by other tyrants.

The “free world” is weak. He prefers to let a free country be intimidated and taken over by Russia in order to avoid what he says would lead to a world war if he intervened militarily. Does anyone remember what led to World War II? Our current world is to be pitied.

HIS WORK IS DONE

With the overwhelming evidence from the LRT inquiry, this council has lost the moral authority to make new spending decisions. Decisions on additional LRT spending should be an election issue. Ottawa airport spending is so outside the city’s spending power standards that it shouldn’t be done by a board that’s out of breath. As for climate change, the million-dollar electric buses that have proven troublesome in northern parts of the United States say enough.

The work of this council is done and its members know it.

BUY SMARTER

What’s for supper, honey? We all have to make important decisions daily to keep our lives on a familiar path. As I get older, I find that one of the most difficult tasks is what I prepare for the evening meal. Especially for two people. As seniors, we want to stay healthy by getting our bodies nourished daily.

With our fixed senior incomes, we are forced to stop preparing some of our favorite dishes. With the cost of living and rising prices, usually enough is prepared for two, with no leftovers. Other times I will prepare enough to freeze to enjoy at a later date. Your money is well spent preparing extras sometimes. Some dishes do not contain now expensive ingredients. My chili no longer has a piece of Italian sausage or $10 pepperoni.

Shop smart and stock up on sale items every week, and occasionally replace a regular three-course meal with a healthy helping of homemade soup and pasta casseroles. We don’t always have dinner like kings at nine o’clock all the time. At nine o’clock… I sleep at eight o’clock.

GOODBYE, FRANKIE

I am a practicing Catholic, but it is high time for this current pope to write his memoirs. Francis has been the most radical and left-wing pontiff for decades. He alienated his followers with controversial decrees, including his encyclical environment, where his leftist views were not warmly welcomed by many. He has done a poor job of weeding out priests and bishops involving sexual abuse in the church.

A new pope is needed, and an excellent choice would be from the African continent, where there are millions of Catholics and that person might be able to bring us back to the true teachings of the church. It’s time to go, Frankie.
