James Gunn Talks ‘The Suicide Squad’ Sequel and Other DC Projects

James Gunn recently spoke about a potential sequel to The Suicide Squad and the other secret DC projects he’s been working on.

James Gunn is a busy man who just finished filming Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Of course, Gunn also has his hands in the DC Universe. We have already received a Peacemaker spin-off, but will there be a proper sequel to The Suicide Squad? While the DC film was well-received and successful on HBO Max, it only earned $167 million at the worldwide box office. Here’s what Gunn said The reading list about a sequel:

“Yeah, we talked about it,…but the honest truth is I just have so many hours in a day to work on stuff.” And I’ve had so much fun working in television that I really think that’s what I’m going to spend the next year of my life doing.

James Gunn’s Sandbox

James Gunn also let it be known that he was working on other DC projects outside of Peacemaker. Reports suggest he’ll be following Amanda Waller, but Gunn wasn’t expected to reveal too much just yet:

“We haven’t even announced any TV series yet…there are a lot of stories about what’s going on, and some of them are accurate, some of them aren’t. I’m working very seriously on another DC project, where I’m very involved in writing and directing…there will be a mix of the characters from “Peacemaker” in the other shows I’m working on. And I’m involved with a few others [DC] things too.

Here is James Gunn’s synopsis The Suicide Squad:

Welcome to Hell – aka Belle Reve, the prison with the highest death rate in the United States of America. Where the worst super-villains are held and where they will do anything to get out – even join the super-secret and super-sleazy Force X task. Today’s do-or-die mission? Assemble a collection of crooks including Bloodsport, Peacemaker, Captain Boomerang, Ratcatcher 2, Savant, King Shark, Blackguard, Javelin and everyone’s favorite psycho, Harley Quinn. Then, arm them heavily and dump them (literally) on the remote, enemy-soaked island of Corto Maltese. Traversing a jungle teeming with militant adversaries and guerrilla forces at every turn, the squad is on a search-and-destroy mission, with only Colonel Rick Flag on the ground to make them behave…and government techs to ‘Amanda Waller in their ears, tracking their every move. And as always, one false move and they’re dead (whether at the hands of their opponents, a teammate, or Waller herself). If anyone is betting, smart money is against them, all of them.

Written and directed by James Gunn, The Suicide Squad with Margot Robbie, Idris Elba, John Cena, Joel Kinnaman, Sylvester Stallone, Viola Davis, Jai Courtney, Peter Capaldi, David Dastmalchian, Daniela Melchior, Michael Rooker, Pete Davidson, Nathan Fillion, Sean Gunn, Flula Borg, Mayling Ng, Tinashe Steve Agee, Jennifer Holland, Alice Braga, Juan Diego Botto, Joaquin Cosio, Storm Reid and Taika Waititi.

The Suicide Squad is available on BluRay, 4K, DVD and Digital, while Peacemaker is streaming on HBO Max. Stay tuned for all the latest news on the future of James Gunn’s DC projects and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.
