She was discovered at the bottom of a flight of stairs at her home at 10 East 64th Street in Manhattan at 12:40 p.m., law enforcement sources told the New York Post.

Authorities believe she suffered a cardiac arrest, but the official cause of death has yet to be determined. She was found by cops who were called to her home for a wellness check, police said.

Cardiac arrest occurs when the heart suddenly stops beating.

The news was shared Thursday evening local time by her children, Donald Jr, Ivanka and Eric Trump.

“Our mother was an incredible woman – a force in business, a world-class athlete, a radiant beauty and a caring mother and friend,” read a statement from the Trump family.

“Ivana Trump was a survivor. She fled communism and embraced this country. She taught her children courage and tenacity, compassion and determination,” the family said.

“She will be sadly missed by her mother, her three children and her ten grandchildren. »

Born in the former Czechoslovakia under communist rule, Ivana moved to Canada in the 1970s, where she briefly worked as a model.

Several accounts exist of how she and Mr. Trump met, however, The New York Times reports that they were presented at a “party in Montreal”.
